F.O.S.T.E.R

We are a group of volunteers who take care of 132ha nature areas between St Francis Bay and Cape St Francis which form a network linking St Francis Bay in the east to Rocky Coast Farm in the west.

Together with SCOSS (St Francis Coastal Open Space System), FOSTER has waged a long and hard battle to get these areas proclaimed and ensure the long term protection of our unique fynbos areas and the endangered plants and animals they support.

St Francis Kromme Trust

The St Francis Kromme Trust is a registered public benefit organisation (PBO reference number 930038246) concerned with environmental issues in the greater St Francis area.

The Trust was established in 1981 by a committee of volunteers headed by Lindy Pagden.

The Mission statement of the Trust reads as follows: To encourage and promote environmental awareness in the Greater St Francis area, preserve and protect the environment and amenities for the benefit of future generations, and encourage the preservation of all flora and fauna, shell-fish, sea life and bird life in the area, and the appropriate use of Public Open Space, coastal areas and nature reserves.

Talhado Children’s Haven

Talhado Children’s Haven now provides both for over 400 children, many of whom are victims of HIV/Aids, molestation, neglect and substance abuse.

A cooked meal of meat, vegetables, beans or rice, sandwiches and fruit is provided; for many of these children, this is the only meal for the day.Supervised Aftercare 100 children attend the pre-primary school with four teachers, two assistance teachers, one cook and one cleaner as well as numerous volunteers for the After-Care Centre.

Thyspunt Alliance

The Thyspunt Alliance was formed to oppose the construction of Nuclear 1 and related infrastructure at Thyspunt. This area cannot sustain such a development both from a social and biophysical viewpoint.

We believe that the original site selection process was flawed. Feasibility studies were conducted in the early eighties and they are now outdated and not in step with the current situation. We believe that the area between Port Elizabeth and East London would be a better option than the currently selected site at Thyspunt.
